Navratri, one of the most vibrant and significant Hindu festivals, is celebrated with great devotion and enthusiasm across India. This year, the nine-day celebration will begin today on October 3, with devotees honouring the nine forms of Goddess Durga. The festival will culminate with Dussehra on October 12. Known for its fasting, prayers, and lively garba and dandiya dances, Navratri’s spirit has also been beautifully captured in Bollywood films.

Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999)
Aishwarya Rai and Salman Khan’s 1999 romantic tale has one of the iconic Navratri songs, Dholi Taro Dhol Baaje. The Sanjay Leela Bhansali-directed film is set in Gujarat, where the nine-day festival is celebrated with much fervour. Kai Po Che (2013)
Based on Chetan Bhagat’s novel The 3 Mistakes Of My Life, Navratri serves as an important backdrop in the Abhishek Kapoor-directed film Kai Po Che. In one of the memorable scenes of the film, the characters participate in playing Garba and Dandiya to the beats of the song, Shubhaarambh, picturised on Rajkummar Rao and Amrita Puri, during the nine-day festivities of Navratri.
Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela (2013)
One of the most celebrated actor couples, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh, led this 2013 romantic tragedy. The Sanjay Leela Bhansali-directed film captured the high spirit of the nine-day festival in all its glory. Deepika, who played Leela, gave an electrifying performance on Nagada Sang Dhol. The intense beats of the dhol and the traditional Garba steps combined with stunning aesthetics and vibrant costumes perfectly reflected the cultural fervour of the festival. Aayush Sharma made his acting debut with the film Loveyatri, co-starring Warina Hussain. Moreover, the entire plot revolves around the nine-day festival.
Satyaprem Ki Katha (2023)
The Sameer Sanjay Vidwans-directed film stars Kartik Aaryan and Kiara Advani in lead roles. The story revolves around the duo, who met during Navratri with Satyaprem (Aaryan) falling in love with Katha (Advani) during the Garba celebrations. The lively beats of the songs Gujju Pataka and Sun Sajni perfectly capture the essence of Navratri.
