A major fire engulfed handful of cars including the Honda Amaze, Maruti Suzuki Swift and Hyundai i10 at the ongoing Auto Expo 2018. The largest gathering of auto makers in India – the Auto Expo opened its doors for public today. The fire broke not at the main venue, but at one of the parking lots near the venue.
Situated a few hundred metres from the main venue, the makeshift parking lot was reserved for cars of exhibitors and media. It was around 4 PM when the cars caught fire, and nobody knows the reason how? Although, the Noida Fire Department was quick enough to extinguish the fire, saving thousands of other vehicles standing in the parking area, they couldn't save 4-5 cars from where the initial fire started.
It is being assumed that the fire could have started via the haystack on the ground as somebody must have dropped a cigarette butt on the dry stack. The parking lot is not a concrete facility, but an open ground covered by dust and haystack.
The possibility of a malfunction in one of the cars can’t be ruled out either.
