Nissan has finally unveiled the much-awaited SUV – Patrol. Codenamed Y63, the four-wheeler is set to be launched in the global market later this year.
The brand-new Nissan Patrol shares a similar style and some internal configurations with the already available Infiniti QX80, which is on sale in the United States and other countries, according to Autocar.
Initially, the Patrol SUV will be rolled out in the North American market under the nameplate– Nissan Armada. The model comes with a more boxy and rugged exterior compared to its predecessor.
The Nissan Patrol will have a 3.5-litre twin-turbocharged V6 powertrain mounted to a 9-speed automatic gearbox. The engine is capable of delivering 425hp of maximum power which is 25hp more than what a 5.6-litre V8 engine could produce in the previous model. It will also easily beat the Toyota Land Cruiser 300’s diesel variant where the powertrain could generate nearly 300hp. Both engines, however, can produce a peak torque of 700Nm.
The platform details have not been revealed yet. As per Autocar India, it will be far better than the previous Y62 model. Looking at its exterior, the Y63 Patrol features a grille piano-black finish, vertically positioned headlamps and an E-shaped LED DRL pattern that makes the look more stylish. The front bumper featuring a horizontal air dam can look similar to that of the Range Rover.
The all-new Patrol’s interior comes with soft-touch materials and customers can enjoy multiple upholstery options in the top variant. The three-row cabin has a couple of 14.3-inch displays. The first one is meant for instrumentation whereas the other is dedicated to infotainment.
The gear segment comes with a button set-up, which is placed on the centre console below the HVAC panel. The rotary selectors for terrain modes can be controlled by large toggle switches. The front panel of the top variants will feature a 12-speaker Klipsch premium sound system.
The rare passengers can enjoy gaming and watch videos on 12.8-inch screens. There will be an option for smartphone connectivity via an HDMI or USB port. The other features of the Y63 Patrol include adaptive cruise control, a 360-degree camera, 8-way power-adjustable front seats, a wireless charging pad, a head-up display and gesture control for the infotainment display.
Nissan earlier thought of launching the Patrol Y62 in the Indian market. However, the automaker later dropped the plan after conducting multiple customer clinics. The new-generation Patrol can give tough competition to the Land Cruiser 300 if Nissan makes it available in the country.
