After dominating the battery-powered scooter segment nationwide, the leading electric two-wheeler maker Ola is now gearing up to use solid-state battery technology in India.
The company’s CEO Bhavesh Aggarwal has already confirmed the news. He revealed that the company is at the very early stages of experimentation and expected to use its own cells in vehicles soon.
Solid-state Battery Technology Benefits
This technology is considered one of the strongest, and most advanced strategies globally. It offers a better range, and more safety to EVs compared to current electrolyte-based lithium-ion battery packs.
The solid-state battery packs are also light in weight, which will bring down the overall weight of vehicles by a few KGs. This will help in offering greater thermal efficiency, and will provide a better riding experience to the customers.
The technology also comes with a fast charging option, and increases the life span of the battery-powered vehicles.
Future Plans
Currently, Ola does not produce cells as it sources from outside. It takes it from LG Energy Solution in South Korea and Contemporary Amperex Technology in China. Once the manufacturing is localized, it will impact the prices of EVs, and become more affordable than ever.
