Markets lose initial gains, close flat
The 30-shares sensitive index, which had gained 87.33 points on Tuesday, gathered another 41.27 points.

Mumbai: Late selling in heavy-weighted stocks pulled down the Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark, Sensex, only to reduce gains as the index still closed over 17 points higher.

The 30-share sensitive index, which gained 49.23 points in early trade, rolled back on emergence of profit booking by funds toward the fag end and closed 17.07 points higher at 11,723.92 points. It touched a high of 11,756.08 points earlier in the day.

Similarly, the National Stock Exchange index, Nifty, settled higher by 4.65 points at 3,430.35 after touching a high of 3,440.20 points.

Trading was brisk in Reliance Industries, State Bank of India and ACC stocks during the sessions, helping Sensex to close in positive zone.

The markets closed flat due to lack of buying interest in scrips. About 1043 shares advanced, 1445 shares declined, and 72 shares were unchanged.

The BSE Small Cap Index lost 0.4 per cent or 21 points to close at 5,849.60.

The BSE Midcap Index closed flat at 4,840.76.

Metal and power stocks were among the top losers.
