Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh also reacted to Kohli getting dropped by Mitchell Marsh in the 8th over, stating that the lost opportunity might cost Australia.

The Indian bowlers humiliated Australia in the ICC World Cup 2023 campaign opener on Sunday in Chennai. There was enough turn on offer and the trio of Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav and Ravichandran Ashwin exploited the conditions pretty cleverly to hurt the Aussies. The spinners shared 6 wickets among each other while the pacer picked up the rest to bundle Australia out to 199 in 49.3 overs.

The chase of 200 looked easy for India but it didn’t start as expected. Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood hunted in pairs, taking down Ishan Kishan, Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer on ducks to reduce India to 2-3 in 1.6 overs.

Meanwhile, former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh seemed a little disappointed with the way Iyer lost his wicket. The latter drove a wider delivery through covers but ended up getting caught by David Warner for a 3-ball duck. Reacting to the dismissal, Yuvraj said he expected ‘better thinking’ from Iyer when the team is under pressure.

Yuvraj also reacted to Kohli getting dropped by Mitchell Marsh in the 8th over, stating that the lost opportunity might cost Australia. The former Indian captain top-edged a short ball from Hazlewood and the ball went straight up in the air. Marsh came running to grab it but failed to do so.

“No 4 batsman has to absorb the pressure !! Need better thinking from @ShreyasIyer15 when team is trying to rebuild their innings ! Still don’t understand why @klrahul is not batting at no 4 ! After scoring a 100 against Pakistan ! Dropping @imVkohli might cost australia big time , don’t drop the king cause he can take the game away.  Game on !! #IndiaVsAus #WorldCup2023,” wrote Yuvraj.

After getting the lifeline, Kohli and Rahul took the charge and stitched a 90-plus stand for India.

Earlier, Ravindra Jadeja became the biggest nemesis among Indian spinners on a tacky Chepauk track as India rolled over Australia for 199 in 49.3 overs. He took 3 for 28 in 10 overs as the slowness of the surface and subtle variations used by the all-rounder became Australia’s undoing.

Ravichandran Ashwin (2/34 in 10 overs) and Kuldeep Yadav (2/42 in 10 overs) also played their parts to perfection.
