Local 18 Tamil recently interviewed a mobile showroom owner in Thanjavur to gain insights into the top-selling phones in 2023 and predictions for 2024. The owner highlighted the increasing popularity of 5G-enabled smartphones, anticipating a continued surge in sales for 2024.
Among the notable models, the Redmi 13C 5G, priced below ten thousand rupees, is witnessing strong demand. The Vivo V29 5G, available at a rate exceeding Rs 15,000, is also gaining traction. Upcoming launches, such as the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra and One Plus 12, are expected to contribute to the 5G phone trend. The showroom owner emphasized that, particularly in Thanjavur, consumers are favouring mobiles priced under Rs 15,000. POCO brand phones were highlighted as popular and budget-friendly choices.
Additionally, the owner mentioned the strong sales of phones from brands like Vivo, Oppo, and Redmi, known for offering cost-effective options. Notably, the iPhone 15 secured the top-selling position in 2023. The owner disclosed that affordable 5G-enabled phones priced between Rs 12,000 and Rs 15,000 are gaining popularity. Models like Oppo A58, Redmi Note 12, Vivo Y27, Vivo T2X, and Samsung Galaxy A145G are becoming preferred choices in this price range. Brands like IQOO Z6 and Redmi 12 5G are also capturing the market between Rs 12,000 and Rs 15,000.
Looking ahead to 2024, the mobile shop owner discussed anticipated features in upcoming phone launches. The focus is expected to be on enhanced streaming quality, network speed, 7 bands, and full integration with high-speed 5G networks. The mention of frequency bands underscores the commitment to providing specific ranges of frequencies to optimise the performance of these smartphones.
