Thangalaan Teaser Out: Pa Ranjith's Gritty War Drama Offers A Contrast to KGF
The teaser contains non-linear sequences from the movie that convey the atmosphere and style of Thangalaan.

A recently released teaser for the upcoming movie Thangalaan, directed by Pa Ranjith and starring Vikram, presents a stark contrast to Yash’s KGF, which utilised the backdrop for a mainstream star-driven film. In contrast, Pa Ranjith, recognised for his films addressing caste-based injustices, has created a gritty war drama centred around themes of avarice within the same setting.

The teaser includes a caption that reads, “As myth leads to history, as greed leads to destruction, as blood wars lead to liberty, rises the son of gold". Although the teaser contains non-linear sequences from the movie, these glimpses effectively convey the atmosphere and style of Thangalaan.

It appears that Pa Ranjith has crafted a film that delves into the historical and mythological aspects of the tribes inhabiting the region that eventually became Kolar Gold Mines. This aligns with his previous work in movies like Madras and Kaala, where the main character strives to reclaim the land and heritage of their people. Thangalaan seems to follow a similar trajectory but introduces the novel element of exploring the theme of greed, a departure from the director’s previous works.

Praising Vikram’s unwavering commitment to his craft, the director remarked, “Vikram is a truly artistic actor. Despite having been a part of numerous commercial films, I have always regarded him as an artistic actor. After the accident, during which Vikram sustained rib fractures, he never once used it as an excuse to halt his work. I’m truly grateful for his dedication because even after the significant accident, Vikram made a full recovery and continued to perform, even through various demanding action sequences, despite the pain."

Thangalaan, produced by Gnanavelraj of Green Studios, features notable actors such as Malavika Mohanan, Parvathy Thiruvothu, and Pasupathy in significant roles. GV Prakash Kumar has collaborated with Pa Ranjith for the first time, and his background score for the teaser has proven to be quite effective.

The film’s screenplay is credited to Tamil Prabha and Pa Ranjith, with dialogues penned by writer Azhagiya Periyavar. Thangalaan is scheduled for release on January 26, 2024. Following this project, Ranjith is expected to direct Kamal Haasan. The exciting announcement was made by Vikram on October 27 via his Twitter account.
