India will face Bangladesh in a two-match Test series next month. The series opener against the Najmul Hossain Shanto-led side is scheduled to take place at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai and will start on September 19, whereas the second Test will be played at Green Park Stadium in Kanpur from September 27 onwards. The BCCI selectors have yet to announce the squad for the series against Bangladesh.
India last played a red-ball match in March 2024 against England at HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala and managed to get the better of the Ben Stokes-led side by an innings and 64-run margin. India sits in the No. 1 position in the WTC 2023-25 points table and would like to get the better of Bangladesh in both matches to maintain the No. 1 position.
India missed the services of many star players during the last Test series against England for various reasons. But there are no major injury concerns at the moment, and India is likely to pick a full-strength squad for the upcoming two matches.
Here’s a look at three Indian players who’re all set to return for the Test series against Bangladesh
Virat Kohli: Batting superstar Virat Kohli missed all five Tests against England earlier this year due to the birth of his second child. He made his comeback during the IPL 2024 and then played in all eight matches for the Men in Blue in the T20 World Cup 2024. Kohli is India’s fourth-leading run scorer in Tests and is all set to be back for the Bangladesh series, which is important for India’s chances to qualify for the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 final.
Rishabh Pant: Star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant last played a red-ball match for India against Bangladesh in Mirpur on December 25, 2022. He was out of action for more than a year due to multiple injuries suffered in the life-threatening road accident but has made a successful comeback to competitive cricket. He is all set to be part of the Indian team for the Bangladesh series and is expected to be the first-choice wicketkeeper as well.
KL Rahul: KL Rahul played in the first Test for India against England and top-scored in the first innings as well, but he suffered an injury during the match and was then ruled out of the next four matches. In Pant’s absence, Rahul donned the wicketkeeping gloves and performed well as a middle-order batter in Tests, which is why there’s a high possibility that the 31-year-old right-handed batter will get a chance.
