'England, Australia, South Africa, West Indies': Former Captain Predicts T20 World Cup Semi-finalists, Excludes India
India made it to the semi-finals of the 2022 T20 World Cup but lost to eventual winners England in a one-sided contest.

Michael Vaughan has predicted defending champions England to make it to the last-four stage of the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup slated to be co-hosted by the USA and West Indies. Along with England, Vaughan feels Australia, South Africa and West Indies will also make the cut for the semi-finals.

The former England captain thus feels India, the winner of the inaugural T20 World Cup, will not make it past the group stages.

“My 4 Semi finalists for the T20 WC … England, Australia, South Africa and the West Indies,” Vaughan posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday.

The T20 World Cup gets underway from June 1 when hosts USA take on Canada in a Group A fixture at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas. As many as 20 teams are taking part in the T20 showpiece.

India have been grouped alongside Pakistan, Ireland, USA and Canada in Group A and will begin their campaign on June 5 in New York.

England won their second T20 World Cup when they beat Pakistan in the final in 2022. They are in Group B alongside former champions Australia, Scotland, Namibia and Oman.

Host West Indies are in Group C and have New Zealand, Afghanistan, Uganda and Papua New Guinea for company.

South Africa, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal and Netherlands form Group D.

Two teams from each group will advance to the Super 8 stage where they will be divided into two pools of four each. The top-four teams from this stage will enter the semi-finals.

India will be led by Rohit Sharma with the BCCI naming a 15-man squad on Tuesday. Allrounder Hardik Pandya has been named as the vice-captain.

A host of top T20 stars from around the world are currently taking part in the IPL 2024. England have announced their world cup bound players will have to leave the competition before May 22 for a home series against Pakistan.
