The IPL put out an official statement, reflecting on the seemingly slow over-rate of the Gujarat Titans, announcing that their new skipper Shubman Gill would be fined for the same.

The salt just got added on top of the wounds of the Gujarat Titans as skipper Shubman Gill was fined Rs 12 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate during their match against Chennai Super Kings last night.

Chennai Super Kings picked up the second straight win of their IPL 2024 campaign as they demolished the visiting Gujarat Titans by 63 runs at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Tuesday.

The hosts went about the game with surgical precision to set GT a target of 207 and limited the visitors to 143/8 to continue winning at home in the ongoing tournament.

Upon the match ending, the IPL put out an official statement, reflecting on the seemingly slow over-rate of the Gujarat Titans, announcing that their new skipper Shubman Gill would be fined for the same.

“As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offences, Gill was fined Rs 12 lakhs,” an official IPL statement read.

There sure wasn’t much that Gill’s side could do, as the Chennai Super Kings’ batters’ sliced through their bowling attack with surgical precision to notch up a mammoth target of 207.

Skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, opener Rachin Ravindra and middle-order hard-hitter Shivam Dube all clocked in clinical performances with the bat to help CSK soar.

Afterwards, it was time for the CSK bowlers to play their part, as the pace trio of Tushar Deshpande, Deepak Chahar, and Mustafizur Rahman all delivered a masterclass, scalping two wickets each and restricting the visitors to a mere 143 runs in 20 overs.

Leading an IPL franchise for the first time, Gill’s Gujarat Titans won their opening match against Mumbai Indians by six runs.
