Eight out of 10 teams of the IPL 2024 have now played seven matches each and the race for the playoffs has started heating up. On Friday night, Lucknow Super Giants snapped their losing streak of two matches to hunt down favourites defending champions Chennai Super Kings.
LSG captain KL Rahul was superb with his bowling change as CSK were reduced to 90/5 in 12.2 overs before a blazing cameo from MS Dhoni propelled them to a competitive total. While the spotlight fell on Dhoni, CSK innings was held together by Ravindra Jadeja who scored a solid half-century to remain unbeaten on 57.
CSK may have thought they have enough in the bank – 176/6. However, a classy innings from LSG skipper Rahul and Quinton de Kock’s return to form laid the foundation of an easy win for the home team at the Ekana Cricket Stadium.
Rahul top-scored with 82 while De Kock made 54. Nicholas Pooran then struck an unbeaten 23 off 12 as LSG overhauled the target with an over to spare.
The win was LSG’s fourth of the season and with that they have taken their points tally to eight. Now as many as four teams have eight points each and they are separated on the points table by differences in the net run-rates.
