The two most expensive players in the IPL history – Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins – will be up against each other for one last time this season. And this time, the stage is huge and the IPL trophy is at stake.
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will be up against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the IPL 2024 final on Sunday at M Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The two teams met in the first qualifier in which KKR outwitted SRH with clever bowling plans on a massive Motera ground and in Chennai, Shreyas Iyer’s men will again start as favourites.

The last time KKR played an IPL final in Chennai, it was against Chennai Super Kings in 2012 – an epic – which established Gautam Gambhir’s credentials as an astute leader. He not only had the right game plan but also had his heart in the right place during those heady years.
SRH, after a few poor seasons, appear fresh and spirited under the leadership of Pat Cummins as they search for a second IPL title.
Ahead of the much-awaited contest, let’s have a look at the players to watch out for in the IPL 2024 Final.
Sunil Narine: A return to the good old days as KKR team management promoted Narine up in the batting order to open. He has been a proven opener back when Gambhir led the charge but to replicate that success was a different challenge. He not only matched that intensity but also has scored the most runs for his team. Narine is currently the highest-scorer for KKR with 482 runs in 14 matches and also the third-highest wicket-taker with 16 scalps.
Venkatesh Iyer: The left-hander has been a lynchpin in KKR’s batting line-up, playing crucial knocks in the team’s domination. Venkatesh’s unbeaten innings in the Qualifier 1 and a century partnership with skipper Shreyas steered KKR into a fourth final in IPL history.
Mitchell Starc: The most-expensive player of the tournament history, Starc was right on the money when KKR locked horns with SRH in the Qualifier 1 in Ahmedabad. He has been a proven match-winner on big occasions and the team’s performance will certainly depend upon his form with the new ball on Sunday evening at Chepauk.
Abhishek Sharma: The youngster from Punjab has been batting like a dream in the ongoing season. He is currently the second-highest scorer for the Sunrisers and has hit record 42 sixes – the most in IPL 2024. But the way he delivered with the ball in the Qualifier 1 on Saturday against the Rajasthan Royals, makes him an invaluable asset.
Shahbaz Ahmed: SRH will be playing a second consecutive game at the Chepauk on Sunday. After their emphatic win against the Royals, it will be interesting to see how the KKR batters deal with Shahbaz’s magic. He came in as an impact player last game, and broke RR’s back with his impressive bowling on a tricky pitch.
Travis Head: The Sunday’s final will mark the last T20 game before the Aussies fly to the West for the World Cup and Head won’t let go of the opportunity to fine-tune his batting. He has been a key personnel behind’s SRH’s high-scoring spree this season. However, he has struggled big time in last three innings, securing back-to-back ducks before hitting 34 against the RR in the qualifier 1. Head is known for his temperament in big games and he would definitely like to repeat the heroics of November 19 (ICC ODI World Cup 2023 final) to add another shiny trophy against his name.
