'Not a Flash in the Pan': Michael Vaughan Dissects Rinku Singh's Poor Form in IPL 2024
Rinku Singh might have had some good chances to prove his calibre this season but failed to shine on those occasions.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan feels Rinku Singh has failed to make the most out of the opportunities he has got in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Kolkata Knight Riders star has not been at his best in the franchise competition this year. Though his team has already sealed their berth in the final, Rinku has yet to produce anything significant in the tournament. He has featured in all matches for KKR this season, recording a total of 168 runs at an underwhelming batting average of 18.67. In parallel to the lean patch, Rinku also missed a place in India’s main squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup squad. He has been selected as a travelling reserve.

Micheal Vaughan recently discussed Rinku Singh’s performance in this IPL during a chat with Cricbuzz. According to the cricketer-turned-pundit, Rinku might have had some good chances to prove his calibre this season but failed to shine on those occasions.

“He’s (Rinku Singh) had opportunities and he came quite early on some occasions, but couldn’t maximise that chance. He’s a terrific player who can strike the ball. His level is so high now because we expect it. In T20s, you have to take so many risks, that every now and then, you have a run of games where it doesn’t quite go your way,” Micheal Vaughan told Cricbuzz, as quoted by NDTV.

Vaughan further shed light on Rinku Singh’s aggressive mindset while also underlining the risk factor of it. He said, “You are talking about trying to hit it out of the ground on a regular basis, and every now and then you can get caught. As long as his mindset is purely to be aggressive – he’s a better player that way – he will be absolutely fine.”

Vaughan hopes Rinku Singh will not take much time to come out of the lean patch. The former cricketer reckons Rinku has not had so many opportunities in this year’s IPL because the KKR top order has been performing exceptionally in most of the matches.

“He’s not a flash in the pan, I don’t think in two years, we are gonna be like ‘Where’s Rinku Singh gone! He’s disappeared. He’s not the player we thought he was. He just having one of those periods. The top order works, whereas in the previous year, it wasn’t working and he was getting to bat earlier on a regular basis. He could knock around for a while and then explode,” Vaughan explained.
