Star Indian pacer Prasidh Krishna, who made his Test debut for the Indian team against South Africa in Centurion on December 26, 2023, is all set to miss the first-round match of the Duleep Trophy 2024 for India A. According to reports in PTI and ESPNCricinfo, 28-year-old Krishna, whose last competitive match was in January 2024 for his state team Karnataka, is recuperating from a surgery he had undergone earlier this year.
He has begun bowling at full tilt following a four-month rehab, but the National Cricket Academy (NCA) trainers still want to treat him with caution due to his recent history with the injury-related issues. He is believed to be nearing full match fitness, and it is likely that he could yet play a part during the later rounds of the Duleep Trophy in the lead-up to the Ranji Trophy.
Krishna was included in the Shubman Gill-led India A squad announced by the BCCI on August 14. In his absence, Avesh Khan, Akash Deep, and Khaleel Ahmed will lead India A’s pace bowling attack against India B at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
Prasidh, who has played two Tests, 17 ODIs, and five T20Is for India so far since making his debut in March 2021 against England, was included in India’s ODI World Cup last year as a replacement for injured Hardik Pandya, but he didn’t get a chance to play in any match.
He got a chance to make his Test debut in the Boxing Day Test against South Africa at SuperSport Park after picking up a five-wicket haul for India A in the first unofficial Test against South Africa A in Potchefstroom. But in his first-ever Test series, he failed to impress and was only able to take three wickets in three innings.
In addition to him, star Indian wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan is also a doubtful starter, at least for the first round, as he has developed a hamstring niggle. The 26-year-old left-handed batter was included in the India D side led by Shreyas Iyer.
According to PTI, Kishan suffered the injury while playing for Jharkhand in the recent Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament in Coimbatore.
