Under pressure following a series of low scores, Dewald Brevis signaled a return to form with a blistering half-century for MI Cape Town during their SA20 clash with Pretoria Capitals.
The highly-rated Brevis was in some mood as he blazed his way to an unbeaten 66 off 32 that propelled MI Cape Town to a mammoth 248/4, a target that proved beyond their opponent’s reach despite a scintillating unbeaten hundred from Kyle Verreynne.
Brevis walked in to bat after the dismissal of Liam Livingstone (12 off 19) and began the assault with the second delivery of his innings he faced from pacer Daryn Dupavillon, a high full toss muscled over deep square leg boundary for a six.
Brevis would hit six sixes during his innings including a no-look six off the bowling of Dupavillon.
It was the first delivery of the 19th over and Dupavillon erred by bowling it full which Brevis launched over long-on without bothering to look where the ball landed. The hit also took him to a 27-ball half-century.

The 20-year-old Brevis was quite relieved with his innings that ended his slump.
“This has been an interesting time, firstly I have to thank god for this. At the end of the tunnel there is light. Grateful to contribute to the team and to have a great score,” Brevis told the broadcasters on Thursday.
“Really enjoyed to be out there in front of my home crowd. I love it here. I back us all the way and we will give it our all,” he added.
Chasing 249, Pretoria Capitals were staring down the barrel having slumped to 42/6 in just 5.4 overs.
With the result of the match a foregone conclusion, Verreynne joined hands with his captain Wayne Parnell to launch a fightback that saw them recover to 120/6 before the partnership was broken.
With Verreynne fast running out of partners, he took it upon himself to drive the chase and peppered the boundary in the final four overs to complete a remarkable hundred.
His innings may not have resulted in Pretoria Capitals’ win but it did deny MI Cape Town a bonus point win.
