The bowling unit has been India’s main weapon in this ICC T20 World Cup. The fielders also deserve much praise for supporting the bowlers. It was proven again when the Men in Blue crushed Afghanistan in the Super Eight opener on June 20 in Barbados. Defending an 182-run target on a sluggish track, the Indian bowlers trapped the opposition batters for a catch.
Ravindra Jadeja stole the show with his fielding prowess while Rishabh Pant showcased exceptional glovework. The duo took three catches each as Afghanistan were all out for 134 runs. In recognition of his on-field efforts, Jadeja was presented with the best fielder medal by head coach Rahul Dravid after the match.

Rohit Sharma also demonstrated impressive fielding skills in the T20 World Cup clash against Afghanistan. The Indian captain claimed two important catches. Young pacer Arshdeep Singh, who picked three wickets, also took a stunner off Jasprit Bumrah’s bowling.

Team India fielding coach T Dilip was certainly proud of the performance of his players. Since he took charge of the fielding department, the Indian cricket team has shown great improvement. With the best fielder medal on offer after every match, each player is up to showcase their athleticism on the field.
T Dilip showered plaudits on every fielder in a dressing-room speech after the Super Eight game. Appreciating the efforts of all fielders, he said, “Something extremely impressive today was the situational awareness. I think that was a direct reflection of what we did in our practice session. Very well done guys.”
Speaking about the first Super Eight game, the Indian batting department struggled a bit in the first innings. The top three batters– Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant– returned to the pavilion in the first ten overs. Shivam Dube was also dismissed early, with India reeling at 90/4.

That’s when Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya stepped up with a 60-run partnership to revive the innings. Surya slammed five fours and three sixes to register 53 off 28 balls. Pandya, on the other hand, demonstrated his finishing prowess and scored 32. Riding on their contributions, India produced 181 runs in 20 overs.
India will be back in action when they take on Bangladesh in the second Super Eight match on June 22 in Antigua and Barbuda.
