Cracking the UPSC examination is considered one of the toughest tasks in the country. Every year, lakhs of candidates appear for the test, but only a few thousand can qualify. The stories of success in the examination are not limited to aspiring candidates fresh out of educational institutions. Women in jobs have also proven to be exemplary in UPSC tests, just like Dr Pragati Verma.
As per the reports, Dr Pragati achieved the 355th rank in the UPSC 2023 exam, while having a hospital job. She is a resident of Maham, a sub-division of Rohtak, in Haryana. She completed her schooling from Maham. For MBBS, she attended the PGIMS (Pandit Bhagwat Dayal Sharma Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences) Rohtak and did her MD in Radiodiagnosis from PGIMER (Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research) Chandigarh.
Then, for a year she worked as a Senior Resident at AIIMS Delhi and PGIMER Chandigarh. After some time, she joined corporate and private hospitals in Kurukshetra as a consultant in Radiology. Throughout her job tenures she simultaneously prepared for the civil service examination.
Her journey to success was filled with complications. In May 2021, she started her studies and appeared for the 2021 prelims only with a few months’ worth of preparation. As per the reports, she lagged by a mere 10 points in the examination and failed to qualify. This little setback strengthened her belief in herself and she knew that she would qualify it after better preparation.
So, in the following year, she qualified for the Prelims, Mains and the interview, securing the 740th rank in the examination. She was given the DANICS cadre after qualifying for the test. Dr Pragati then decided to take the exam for a third time in 2023.
In the Haryana civil services exam, she achieved the second rank in the state. Last year, she joined the Haryana Civil Services and is at the post of OSD to Commissioner, Ambala Division.
