Meet Sonali Devi, The Delhi Girl Who Cracked UPSC After Completing MBA From IIM Calcutta

IAS Officer Sonali Devi’s story is a remarkable example of perseverance and dedication. After facing the rigorous challenges of the UPSC exam, Sonali cracked it in her second attempt, securing the 41st rank, and has since become an inspiring figure for many aspiring civil servants.

Sonali’s academic journey began at Carmel Convent School in Delhi, where she excelled as a student. She scored 91.8 per cent in her class 10 examinations and 91.2 per cent in class 12. Her academic prowess continued at Delhi Technological University (DTU), where she pursued a B.Tech in Computer Science and achieved a commendable 8.15 CGPA out of 10. Following her graduation, Sonali worked as a software developer at PayU, demonstrating her technical skills and professional acumen.

Her career trajectory took a significant turn when she decided to pursue an MBA at IIM Calcutta after clearing the CAT exam. After her time at IIM Calcutta, she worked as an analyst but her desire to serve the nation led her to shift her focus towards civil services. Sonali took a 2.5-year break from her career to prepare for the UPSC exam, demonstrating her commitment to achieving her goal.

Despite the challenges she faced, Sonali’s hard work and determination paid off when she succeeded in the UPSC exam in 2021 on her second attempt. Her success led to her first posting as an Assistant Collector in Rewa. She subsequently served as an Assistant Secretary in the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and is currently the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Bichhiya Tehsil in Madhya Pradesh.
