A plea has been filed in the Supreme Court requesting a postponement of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test – Postgraduate (NEET-PG) 2024, which is scheduled for August 11, 2024. Concerns regarding the difficulties applicants face as a result of the exam cities’ delayed assignment have been brought up by the petitioner. The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear the petition tomorrow, August 9.
According to Bar and Bench, as per the appeal filed by Vishal Soren, students are experiencing difficulty reaching their exam venues since they have been assigned centres in cities that are inconvenient for them to get to.
The plea states that the exam cities were allocated to the students on July 31, 2024, and that the announcement of the exam venues was made on August 8, 2024. While this policy was intended to avoid misconduct, it has caused logistical issues for nearly two lakh test subjects. The petitioner claims that the short time frame has made it exceedingly difficult for students to schedule travel to their assigned destinations, particularly with restricted rail availability and rising airfares.
Furthermore, the exam will be conducted in two batches, and the formula for normalisation is unknown to the applicants, raising concern among the petitioners, the petition has been asserted. “Seeking details of the formula for normalisation of the four sets of question paper and seeking clarity on ensuring that the normalisation formula is disclosed to the candidates thereby eliminating any possibility of arbitrariness in the process,”, cites the petition as it is stated by Bar and Bench.
The petition seeks to assure fairness and prevent any potential inconsistency in the NEET PG 2024 examination.
In yet another significant occurrence, claims are circulating on social media platforms that the NEET PG question paper has been leaked, just days before the exam. However, the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has stated that the question paper has not been leaked and that “such reports are false and misleading.”
According to a press statement issued by the board, the NEET PG question papers for 2024 have not yet been set up.
The NBEMS has stated that certain fraudulent agents are making “false and bogus claims” on the social media platform Telegram Messenger that the question papers have been compromised and being offered in exchange for money.
