For Ali Fazal and Richa Chadha, love bloomed in 2013 after they first met on the sets of Fukrey. The couple went on tie the knot in an intimate ceremony in Lucknow last year and recently collaborated on Fukrey 3, where Ali was seen in a cameo appearance. In a recent interaction with News18 Showsha, Richa revealed that they kept the news of them dating hidden from their Fukrey co-stars Varun Sharma, Pulkit Samrat and Manjot Singh and said, “I didn’t tell anyone about Ali and myself. I thought Manjot would feel jealous because he was single. In fact, he’s permanently single (laughs).”
Pulkit now exclusively tells us that while the lovebirds thought they were pretty discreet about their love life, the rest of the cast already came to know of it during the promotions of the first instalment of the film. He says, “Richa and Ali thought that we didn’t have the slightest hint of their brewing romance but we all knew. During the last leg of the promotions of the first part of Fukrey, we got a feeling that something must be cooking between them, kuch toh daal pak rahi hai.”
Sharing his thoughts on why he thinks they decided to stay tight-lipped about their romance, the Made In Heaven season two actor jokes, “They didn’t tell us for the longest time maybe because they doubted the substantiality of their relationship. They perhaps didn’t know if it was just ‘time pass’ or a solid one (laughs).”
According to Pulkit, Fukrey was a rather special experience as it not only propelled him to instant fame but also gave him some of his closest friends. Speaking about how insecurities and rivalries among peers in showbiz are passé, he remarks, “We’re a family. I love all of them. I don’t understand how co-actors cannot be friends. If you can’t be friends, how can you work together? And if you’ve worked together, how is it possible to not know and understand one another and be a part of each other’s life?”
Happy that their onscreen camaraderie has translated off-screen and continues to remain solid even after more than a decade, Pulkit adds, “In our friendship, we freely give and ask for advice and we’re very supportive of each other. If someone from the Fukrey squad calls me even at three o’clock in the night, I’ll be there for them and it applies to the others too provided we pick up the phone (laughs).”
A while back, Ali revealed that he had to give up working on Fukrey 3 and had to choose Mirzapur 3 over it because of his chock-o-block schedule. But that didn’t stop the gang from hanging out. However, Pulkit confides that they missed Ali through the promotions and how they left no opportunity to fuel his ‘FOMO’. “We missed Ali through the promotions. He’s the funniest one among us! But whenever we were having fun, we video called him and told him, ‘We’re having a great time. What are you doing alone?’” chuckles Pulkit.
