Milan: Experienced Inter full-back Javier Zanetti signed a contract extension until 2013 on Monday and the Argentinian turned 37 on Tuesday, only adding to the celebrations. The former Banfield star might be one of the oldest players in Serie A, but is still full of ambition and hungry for more success.
"This evening I will celebrate my birthday, but tomorrow I will return to work. I want to continue to write the history of this club. Rafa Benitez has clear ideas and with him he we can continue winning," Zanetti was quoted as saying by Sky Italia.
"The championship is open. All our rivals have reinforced. We're hungry for more success though and want to win all competitions we participate in, starting with the Italian Super Cup tie against Roma."
Zanetti also took the time to discuss Inter's transfer policy during the summer transfer window and praised former Milan defender Paolo Maldini.
"Mario Balotelli is very close to leaving us, but at the moment he is still our team-mate. I hope Maicon stays. The president was very clear, he must stay.
"The opponent I have most admired during my career is Paolo Maldini."
