The Uruguayan international netted 33 times in all competitions last term.

Napoli: Italian sources have stated that Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson has joined Manchester City and Real Madrid in the chase for Napoli striker Edinson Cavani.

The Uruguayan international netted 33 times in all competitions last term and helped his Serie A side to Champions League qualification.

Man United's has reportedly scouted the 24 year old on a number of occasions and now the Old Trafford side are ready to enter the race to sign a player who is now considered one of the most in form strikers in Europe.

Talk of a possible move to PSG for Dimitar Berbatov may well have led to the interest in Cavani as Ferguson will not want to sell the Bulgarian without having a useful replacement lined up.

Berbatov finished the season as the Premier League’s joint top scorer but found himself sat on the bench once Ferguson decided that Javier Hernandez and Wayne Rooney were his preferred strike pairing.

Manchester City will rival United for Cavani and would clearly have the funds to beat their local rivals in a bidding war but the former Palermo striker may prefer a move to the Premier League champions even if it would mean having to fight for a regular spot in the starting eleven.

The powerfully built striker is valued at around 25 million pounds and could be well suited to the Premier League given his robust physical presence.
