New Delhi: Manchester United players could soon be sporting brand Sahara t-shirts. The world's biggest football club is in discussions with Subroto Roy's Sahara Group to possibly sponsor their t-shirts.
Sahara's head of Corporate Communications Sahara Abhijit Sarkar confirmed that the business group has received a proposal from Manchester United.
"Yes! We have definitely received a proposal from Manchester United. It is an elaborate proposal from Manchester United. We are still studying it and I cannot comment further," Sarkar said.
"We received the proposal few days back. The dialogue has not yet started. We will decide when to revert back. But at present it is not yet decided," he said.
Currently, insurance giant American International Group (AIG) has a four-year contract for sponsoring Manchester United shirts for about Rs 415 crore.
But AIG has been hit hard by the financial meltdown and the deal appears to have run into trouble.
Manchester United will also be seen in action on Tuesday night against Derby County in the semi finals of the Carling Cup. United have won 4 of the 5 matches the two have played in the recent past and will be hoping for an easy outing tonight.
