Argentina's 3-1 win over Nigeria in Dhaka was their fourth victory in six matches against the African nation.

New Delhi: Argentina's 3-1 victory over Nigeria in a Fifa friendly at Dhaka on Tuesday once again brought to light the domination that the two time world champions have exercised over the Super Eagles in the last couple of decades.

Captain Lionel Messi whose corner kick led to Argentina's solitary goal win over Venezuela on Saturday once again led from front as his side galloped to their fourth win over the African nation in their last six encounters.

Messi also helped his side avenge their 1-4 embarrassment against the Nigerians in a friendly at Abuja just over three months ago.

But apart from that the Eagles have not had much joy against Argentina who can't seem to do much wrong against the former Olympic champions (Atlanta 1996) especially when it comes to the quadrennial world cup.

Way back during in 1994 it was Claudio Caniggia whose brace helped the Diego Maradona led side overcome a one goal deficit to beat Nigeria 2-1 at Boston in the showcase event held in the United States.

Eight years thereafter Argentina beat the Nigerians 1-0 and repeated the result last year by finishing on top by a solitary goal.

Apart from that, the Nigerians managed a goalless draw in the Confederations Cup against the Argentines in 1995 but without a shadow of doubt it is the South Americans who have had the wood over their African counterparts.
