Newcastle: Newcastle United have agreed a fee with Lyon for the services of Bafetimbi Gomis, the French club have confirmed, while their chances of signing Queens Park Rangers striker Loic Remy also look to have improved.
The Magpies have been looking to add a new striker to their squad this summer, and have long been linked with a move for both Gomis and Remy, reports espnfc.com.
The Premier League side appeared to have cooled their interest in Gomis earlier this week, though, after seeing a bid rejected for the player.
However, Lyon owner Jean-Michel Aulas has since revealed that the club have accepted a new offer of €8 million, plus €2 million worth of add-ons, from Newcastle.
Aulas said in quotes on French website Journal du Dimanche: "We have accepted the proposal of Newcastle, which is €8 million, plus €2 million. The agreement is now linked to the acceptance of agents' fees.
"I understand that the problem is in the amount and manner of payment of commissions. There are several people involved in the operation, which complicates the negotiations. But I am hopeful that things will be resolved within 24 or 48 hours.''
And Newcastle could also be nearer to completing a move for Remy after QPR manager Harry Redknapp conceded he can leave the club on loan this summer.
Redknapp had previously stated that the France international would only be leaving on a permanent basis. However, he has now revealed that a loan deal is the more likely option, providing interested parties offer the right price.
"He's a player who's going on loan," Redknapp said. "If you were buying Loic Remy for £8 million, which there were clubs to buy him for, if you gave him a four-year contract and he ran that down and was a free agent, he'd cost you £2 million-a-year. If somebody wants to loan him, they'd be entitled to pay £2 million for him."
Remy impressed in the Premier League last term following his January move from Marseille, netting six times in 14 games for QPR.
And Redknapp believes that with a full season in the top flight, the striker could easily double that tally.
"They would be getting a striker that would be getting 15-20 goals next year in the Premier League," he said. "He is a top class player. He could play for anybody in the Premier League in my opinion."
