Spain: Real Sociedad were held to a 1-1 draw at Osasuna on Sunday, missing the chance to climb closer to the top four in the Spanish league.
Osasuna ended a five-game losing streak but fell into the relegation zone after Valladolid beat 10-man Almeria 1-0 at home.
Sociedad started well at Reyno de Navarra Stadium, with forward Gonzalo Castro opening in the seventh minute from Carlos Vela's unselfish pass following a defensive lapse from Osasuna.
But Osasuna settled down and began to threaten from corners and free kicks, while Sociedad defender Inigo Martinez almost scored in the 49th from the center line with a long lob that hit the crossbar.
Osasuna striker Oriol Riera finally converted on his fourth shot attempt from a set piece when he headed in Roberto Torres' cross in the 59th, and Sociedad needed goalkeeper Claudio Bravo to protect the point after Osasuna pressed them into their area in stoppage time.
The result left Real Sociedad in sixth place, level on points with fifth-place Sevilla, and six points out of fourth and Spain's final Champions League berth held by Athletic Bilbao.
Valladolid striker Manucho scored what proved to be the winner over Almeria in the sixth minute when he tapped in a cross.
Jesus Rueda came close to doubling the lead with a free kick that clipped the bar in the 73rd.
Two minutes later Almeria defender Marco Torsiglieri was dismissed with his second yellow card for fouling Manucho.
Valladolid and Almeria are tied on points with Osasuna but out of the drop zone thanks to goal difference.
Villarreal host Elche later, while Valencia welcome Getafe.
Atletico Madrid lead the league by one point over Barcelona and three points over Real Madrid with seven games to play.
