Rooney dropped, fined after late night-out
Rooney was dropped for Manchester United's defeat against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.

London: England international Wayne Rooney was reportedly fined 200,000 Pounds and dropped for Manchester United's game against Blackburn Rovers after the striker turned up for a training session bearing the effects of a long night-out.

Rooney saw from the corporate box as his team slumped to a 2-3 defeat at home to then bottom-of-the-table side Blackburn.

Rooney, who has scored 13 goals from 17 games this season, apparently reached the training ground still feeling the effects of a night-out with teammates Darron Gibson and Jonny Evans and their partners, and all three were deemed not fit to train, according to the Daily Mirror.

Rooney and Gibson trained while Evans was injured, but Manchester boss Sir Alex Ferguson was so livid with the three players that he told them to report to Carrington the following day for extra work while the rest of the first-team squad had the day off. Despite none being guilty of breaking the club curfew, all three were fined a week’s wages.

Sir Alex also decided to omit all three from his match squad to face Blackburn on Saturday as further punishment, despite the raft of injuries which currently plague the United squad.

The loss of Evans meant Michael Carrick was forced to once again fill in at centre-back, while out-of-favour striker Dimitar Berbatov kept his place in the absence of Rooney.

The move backfired as Rovers took full advantage to shock a makeshift United team and recorded only their second victory at Old Trafford since 1962.

Rooney is understood to have been aggrieved at his manager’s decision to discipline him, but there is not thought to be any lasting problem between the two men.
