Walcott warns Spurs to 'watch their shoulders'
Arsenal have won five in a row in the Premier League and are now just a point behind Tottenham, who sit third.

London: Theo Walcott has fired a warning shot to Tottenham after Arsenal came from behind to win for the fourth game in a row, against Newcastle on Monday.

Walcott was in imperious form on the right wing for the Gunners, troubling the Magpies' defence all night and providing the cross for Thomas Vermaelen's stoppage-time winner as Arsenal beat Newcastle 2-1.

The win takes Arsene Wenger's side to within a point of their north London rivals Spurs, who have lost their last three league games.

The Englishman told Sky Sports: "We’re just getting our jobs right, defensively we’ve been fantastic."

"We know we can always score goals and lately we haven’t been conceding too many. Tottenham have got to be watching their shoulders now."

"With the squad of players that we’ve got and we’ve got a lot of players coming back to fitness now, we believe we can go much further than [third]."

"It’s been an up and down season but it’s the way you finish, that’s the most important thing."

Meanwhile, Vermaelen also praised his teammates' persistence in breaking down a stubborn Newcastle defence.

He said: "We showed we have fight. The second half we were pushing and pushing, We knew we had to be patient and in the end we showed a goal. We’re on a good run at the moment, we’re coming close to Tottenham now so we’ll keep fighting, we’ll fight for top place."

Arsenal captain Robin van Persie and Newcastle goalkeeper Tim Krul were at loggerheads throughout the match and clashed after the Gunners' late goal, but Walcott insisted it just showed the Dutch duo's passion to win.

He said: "I don’t have a clue to be honest, it was just heat of the moment. It just showed how much people wanted to win."
