Loki Season 2 has kicked off with a bang and the first three episodes, captured the mischievous God’s journey as he’s glitching and travelling multiple universes. In the newest instalment, Tom Hiddleston’s Loki is seen running through the halls of Time Variance Authority (TVA) and trying to search for answers related to Kang (Jonathan Majors) with Mobius played by Owen Wilson. Amid this, Marvel producer Kevin Wright, in a recent interview with TV Insider, describes the new season as the character’s journey of self-discovery and Tom’s character is on a path to becoming the best version of himself. While Loki may not be a full-fledged hero just yet, the producer share insights about Loki’s evolving journey.
Kevin said, “He’s a character who has not lived up to his full potential yet and that was the exciting journey for us in Season 2 as we want this Loki to become the best version of himself. And something that Tom would say was like, ‘You cannot become the best version of yourself in life until you really embrace your past and who you are and fully kind of reckon with your being and the things that you’ve done and what you want to do’.”
Kevin Wright further explains that they aren’t solely focusing on turning Loki into a “good guy,” instead, it’s a journey of self-discovery. Season 2 aims to depict God of Mischief’s growth and evolution. Each step of his journey represents a progression in his character and the use of “magic is a fun way to show that.” Through his actions, Loki is becoming a real leader. “It was just something that felt natural to the story, but also, luckily, I think it’s something the fans desperately want to see as well,” the producer adds.
“In Season 1, it was really helpful to have him on the back foot because it allowed him to go on this really unexpected journey of growth. We’ve seen him be redeemed, we’ve seen him be a villain, we’ve seen him be an anti-hero. He’s kind of flirted with heroism. But I think our show really lets him start wandering down that path to do it. The TVA is a bad organization in a lot of ways. They completely broke him down, but it set him on this new journey now,” Kevin explains.
Earlier, Kevin Wright giving hints about Loki season 3 in an interview with Comicbook, mentioned that they are considering how to continue exploring stories related to the Time Variance Authority (TVA) and Loki. However, he clarified that the first and second seasons of the series were considered as two interconnected chapters of the same book. While they plan to conclude this particular story, he further claims that there’s room for more chapters in the future.
Loki’s last appearance prior to the ongoing season was in the post-credits scene of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. In this scene, Loki and Mobius come across one of Kang’s variants, a moment that leaves Tom Hiddleston’s character filled with fear.
