How to Remove Mop and Glo
How to Remove Mop and Glo
Mop and Glo is a floor-cleaning product that is designed to add shine to a surface. Each time you use the liquid, it distributes a waxy film over the surface. Over time, it can cause the floor to lose its luster. In fact, it is not recommended for some floors because of the buildup. It is a good idea to wipe up the product from time to time, using cleaning products designed for your hardwood, linoleum or laminate flooring.
Steps

Removing Mop and Glo From Hardwood

Vacuum the floor to remove all excess dust and debris. Move as much furniture as you can. You will need to have access to all the areas that were covered in Mop and Glo.

Open all the windows. Although this method is non-toxic, mixing a vinegar solution leads to a strong smell.

Pour 1/2 cup (118ml) of white vinegar into one gallon (3.8l) of hot water. The water should be cool enough that you can submerge your hands in it. The vinegar is acidic and it brings up the waxy residue from the Mop and Glo.

Add several drops of lemon, orange or clove essential oils. These oils subdue the harsh vinegar smell.

Fill another bucket with clean warm water for rinsing.

Dip a microfiber cloth in the bucket and wring it out. Keep the amount of solution and water you use to a minimum to keep the subfloor from getting wet and the wood from warping. Start scrubbing from the farthest corner until you come to the doorway.

Rinse sections of the floor with clean microfiber cloths after the solution sits for a five to 10 minutes. The vinegar needs a few minutes to break through the residue. Make sure to rinse well.

Removing Mop and Glo From Laminate

Vacuum the laminate floor to remove dust and debris. You don’t want anything to remain that could scuff the surface.

Purchase some chemical stripping gloves to use in this process. Keep a bucket nearby to place damp rags and sponges.

Purchase full strength acetone to clean the film. You may need to get this at a specialty cleaning store.

Open all the windows as you ready the space for Mop and Glo removal. Since you shouldn’t use large amounts of water on laminate, you usually have to use harsh chemicals to remove film.

Pour the acetone in a spray bottle. Apply liberally and clean with scrap rags.

Don’t use harsh brushes on a laminate floor. You may be able to employ a non-stick scrubber sponge or #0000 steel wool to bring up tough film.

Scrub hard until the film is renewed and your floor shines. It takes plenty of hard work to get the Mop and Glo up. However, once you’ve removed it, you can use water and a microfiber cloth to clean your laminate flooring.
