Miscreants entered a duplex house of a businessman and decamped with one kg gold ornaments and Rs 20 lakh in cash here on Sunday night.

The incident took place at Housing Society located in Bowenpally police limits.

According to police, the culprits gained access by breaking the main door of the house on Sunday night. Thereafter, they ransacked the bedroom almirah and fled with cash and jewellery. The house owner Maheshwar Gupta, who returned home at around 11.30 a.m on Monday after a four-day vacation, noticed the main door of the house open and cash and gold ornaments missing from the almirah, Bowenpally detective Inspector Srinivasulu said.

Gupta runs an air-conditioner manufacturing unit and stays with his wife Indira Gupta and his son Karan. After noticing the incident, the victims lodged a complaint with the Bowenpally police. Police, along with the clues team, rushed to the spot and collected some samples. 

Karan, who is an employee in a private firm, told Express that his family members had gone to New Delhi on Thursday for finding a suitable match for him. They had kept the cash and gold in the house for the purpose of marriage.
