CHENNAI: The city police arrested two Aavin employees in connection with a ‘kandhuvatti’ case and seized items worth Rs Seven lakh including 63 ATM cards, 33 bank passbooks, blank signed cheques and cash of Rs 5.7 lakh from the house of one of the arrested men at Madhavaram Milk Colony on Friday.Police said they arrested Karunakaran working at Ambattur Aavin Dairy and Kuppan living at the quarters in milk colony for allegedly running a kandhuvatti business. A real estate agent K Mani (53) of Bommuchetti Street lodged a complaint that he had borrowed Rs 10,000 from two employees, who he knew when he had visited Mathur and Manali for business purpose.Mani had given a signed blank cheque, a blank paper with a revenue stamp stuck along with his signature to the employees and had also paid Rs 1,000 as interest, police said. But despite paying the interest for six months, Mani was asked for more interest and was threatened that they would write Rs 1 lakh in the bank cheque he had given and also fill the signed paper that the real estate agent had borrowed Rs 1 lakh from them and would sue him.The arrested men had also allegedly threatened the complainant with dire consequences if he informs anybody about them. Mani had also alleged to the police that the two employees had given money to many Aavin employees and would take their ATM cards and bank passbooks to withdraw their salaries when they do not pay interest, police said.
