Tension gripped Shanthipura village in H D Kote taluk on Sunday after two communities clashed over rumours that a garland made of slippers was put on a name board of Maharshi Valmiki Yuvaka Sangha.

According to the police two persons were injured, one person was arrested and a case was registered against 12 people.

One hearing ‘news’ that a garland made of slippers was put on the name board, a group of persons belonging to a particular community staged flash protest. They were joined by the people belonging to same community from nearby villages. The protesters allegedly entered the houses of another community members suspecting their involvement in the incident and attacked them.

The police said they had to resort to mild lathi-charge to bring the situation under control. As a precautionary measures, the police has clamped prohibitory orders in the village till Tuesday morning.

SP R Dileep, additional SP Mohan Reddy, Hunsur DySP Muddu Mahadevaiah and tahsildar Shivakumaraswamy visited the village.

Condemning the incident, MLC Siddaraju and MLA Chikkanna requested the locals to maintain peace. Saragur Police have registered a case against 12 persons.

In Mysore and Chamarajanagar also protest were held. In Chamarajanagar, the protesters blocked the road and burnt tyres.
