Strong winds lashed Lucknow, but no casualties were reported there. However, trees were uprooted in some places.
Lucknow: At least 26 people were killed in the thunderstorms and lightning that struck parts of Uttar Pradesh early on Saturday, officials said.
According to an official spokesman, as many as 16 people died in Shahjahanpur district, about 190 km from Lucknow.
The thunderstorm claimed six lives in Lakhimpur-Kheri, about 240 km from Lucknow, while four were struck by lightning in Ambedkar Nagar district, about 160 km from the state capital. Reports of house collapse were also reported from some rural areas.
