The High Court on Monday directed BBMP’s Technical Vigilance Cell Committee (TVCC) to submit the investigation report on the alleged multicrore scam within 45 days.
Hearing a bunch of PIL petitions, a division bench comprising Chief Justice Vikramajit Sen and Justice Aravid Kumar directed the TVCC to submit the report on irregularities in civil works in 29 divisions of the BBMP.
Earlier, the counsel for the petitioners contended, “The State Government has ordered CID to investigate the scam worth over `1,540 crore reported in Malleswaram, Gandhinagar and Rajarajeshwarinagar divisions from 2008-09 to 2011-12. We doubt there may be similar scams in the remaining 26 divisions and they also need to be given to CID for investigation.”
The government counsel stated, “The TVCC headed by BBMP Commissioner is conducting investigation of the other 26 divisions and therefore, there is no need to give these cases to CID.”
Objecting the Government counsel’s stand, the petitioner contended, “There is a doubt that many politicians and officials are involved in this huge scam and therefore, we cannot expect a free and fair investigation from the TVCC.”
Justice Sen observed, “Now, the TVCC is conducting the investigation and why you are demanding a CID investigation? Let the TVCC complete its investigation and if required, we will order a CID probe.”
Later, the court adjourned the case for further hearing.
