In a bizarre incident that happened in Uttar Pradesh’s Etah, a 55-year-old man allegedly performed his terahvi on Monday. As a shock for villagers and his relatives, two days later, the man, Hakim Singh died.
Singh organised the ritual on January 15 and had invited around 800 people to the feast, reported India Today, adding that the man did not have faith in his family members. He suspected that they wouldn’t conduct his terahvi after his death.
According to the villagers, the ailing man had realized that his death was near and considered performing a terahvi ritual a better option. Singh believed his relatives would not do it after he was gone.
Hakim Singh had also accused his brothers and nephews of forcibly taking over his ancestral land and house and claimed that they had physically assaulted him in the past.
Singh’s wife had left him a few years back. Also, the man had no child.
In another incident reported from Uttar Pradesh’s Greater Noida, a man accused in a dowry death case lashed his throat with a blade inside the court premises.
The man was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital and was stated to be out of danger. Meanwhile, the court has postponed the hearing into the case, officials said.
The man is identified as 35-year-old Shivam Singh, a resident of Pawli village in Greater Noida.
Singh’s wife was found dead at their home, following which her parents submitted a complaint to the Jarcha police.
He was arrested by the police in March 2022 and booked for suspected dowry death under section 304 B (punishment for dowry death) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and was jailed along with his brother. He is currently out on bail.
Singh was to appear before the additional district judge’s fast-track court I, located in Surajpur, as the statements of the complainants in the case were to be recorded.
