New Delhi: Dentist couple Rajesh and Nupur Talwar, accused in the murders of their daughter Aarushi and servant Hemraj, have given a list of 13 witnesses to the Special CBI in Ghaziabad. The Talwar couple wants these witnesses for their defence.
The list includes IPS officer Arun Kumar, who was the chief of the first CBI team that probed the twin murder case. Now the CBI has to file it reply on the list in the court. Kumar is currently the Uttar Pradesh ADG - Law and Order.
Rajesh and Nupur produced the list after the CBI court took a tough stand.
Earlier, the Talwars claimed that their witnesses were afraid of the CBI and so they needed more time to finalise the list. It was Kumar and his team that had given a clean chit to the Talwar couple.
The list includes Talwars' family friends, mother of Arushi's friend, the then Nodia district hospital pathologist, former head of AIIMS Forensic Department, a carpentar, Bharti and Vodafone Nodal Officers and Supreme Court Registrar. The CBI will give its reply on Thursday in which the agency will say how many witnesses are important in the case.
The court will also hear another plea by the Talwars in which they have demanded that all the evidences linked to the case be examined by external experts.
Teenager Aarushi and domestic help Hemraj were murdered in May, 2008 and her parents, dentists Rajesh and Nupur Talwar, are being tried for the killings.
