Mumbai: Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, who is excited about 'Aashiqui 2' says, it will not be erotica but a clean love story which would be pitched as a universal movie. The Bhatt camp is now making a sequel of their own 1990 hit romantic film, 'Aashiqui' that featured Rahul Roy and Anu Agarwal in the lead.
Directed by Mohit Suri, 'Aashiqui 2' stars Shraddha Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapoor in the lead. "Mohit Suri is making a product that is catering to the constituency which always kept asking me that why do I make only 'Murder 2', 'Jism 2', kind of erotic films and not the kind of cinema that I used to make earlier like 'Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahi' and types. I know it is too long.. that movie came in 1990 and this will come now," producer Mahesh Bhatt told PTI in an interview.
"But this thing was not in my hands as filmmakers have to decide what they want to make. So after making 'Raaz 2', 'Murder 2' kind of gory violent films Mohit now wanted to enter in a completely virgin area of innocent love...enduring
love that families enjoy. That is the choice that Mohit has made," he said.
When asked if this will be a clean film, Bhatt says, "I would say we will make this film certainly for U or U/A category. It won't be a U/A and A...it won't be an adult film. Because things have matured, there will be gentler, palatable
romantic scenes but not like 'Murder 2'."
It has been over two decades since 'Aashiqui' released and even today Rahul Roy and Anu Aggarwal are best known for their debut in the Mahesh Bhatt musical.
"The franchise continues... that film was in 1990 and now it is 2012. That time it was pre-economic liberalisation and today is new internet age. It is completely brand new product with an extraordinary story," Bhatt said.
"We will take the brand, not the story forward with an out-and-out love story," he said.
