Bengaluru: Several child rights activist in Karnataka are up in arms against the state High Court's decision to allow a French diplomat, facing trial for allegedly raping his 3-year-old daughter, to meet her.
In October, the Karnataka High Court granted bail to the diplomat after he was arrested on the charges of allegedly raping his daughter. While granting bail, the court allowed him to meet her. However, child rights activist raised their voice against the court's decision claiming that it will add more to the child's mental trauma.
Akhila Vidyasandra, advocate-cum-activist said, "This order is as good as that of a khap panchayat. We will move to the Supreme Court or Child Rights Commission against the order. We want that the child should to be kept away from her father."
Another activist, Manohar Elavarthi of Swaraj Abhiyan said, "If the child meets the perpetrator, it could lead to reliving experience. The child will get scared. She will have a feeling that people who are meant to protect her are weak and he (her father) is a powerful man. This will affect her mental condition."
