Mumbai: Vikram Bhatt last delivered a hit almost five years ago. The film Awara Paagal Deewana boasted of an impressive star cast with Akshay Kumar, Sunil Shetty and Aftab Shivdasani.
Subsequently, Vikram seems to have earned himself the tag of a flop director. Footpath, Inteha, Aetbaar, Elaan, Jurm are just a few of the films which failed to make their mark with the audiences.
Three years later Vikram came out with Deewane Huye Paagal with the original star cast as well as veteran actors like Om Puri, Johnny Lever and Paresh Rawal. Expectations from this film were high but unfortunately, the magic of the original did not work. Ankahee coming after DHP was not a great success but not as complete a disaster as Red.
And while Vikram continues to try his hand at different formulas, what has emerged is his seemingly unshakeable faith in Aftab Shivdasani.
Vikram’s latest offering Life Main Kabhie Kabhiee is a complete deviation from his earlier style of filmmaking. The film, which revolves around five people in search of happiness, has Aftab playing a central role. Does Vikram believe Aftab to be his lucky charm?
In his usual flippant manner Vikram jokes, “Oh, don’t you know? I cast only those people who pay me a part of their earnings.”
On a more serious note he adds, “ I share a lot in common with Aftab. We believe in the same style of cinema. Secondly, he is a director’s actor and trusts me totally. Over the years a comfort level has been established. I see no reason to cast another actor where I will have to work anew towards building a relationship."
Maybe that's bad news for all the stars-in-waiting out there, right?
