New Delhi: Staunchly opposing the demand for clemency for Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru, the BJP on Tuesday demanded that he should be hanged and termed all those who are asking for him to be pardoned as traitors.
"All those who are supporting the demand for clemency for Afzal Guru are traitors. Ghulam Nabi Azad is a traitor," BJP President Rajnath Singh said while addressing a protest organised by Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha against the demand to grant clemency to Afzal.
Delhi BJP chief Harsh Vardhan, who also participated in the demonstration, said, "Afzal has committed a crime which cannot be pardoned. He has attacked the temple of the country, our Parliament, and for that he should be hanged."
BJYM President Anil Sharma said, "Afzal Guru should be hanged and supporters like Ghulam Nabi Azad should be declared traitors." He further said that if Afzal is not hanged, the BJYM activists will stage nationwide protests.
The protestors planned to march to Congress President Sonia Gandhi's 10, Janpath official residence, but were detained by police outside the BJP headquarters and later released.
