AIADMK opposes teachers as tasters

PUDUCHERRY: AIADMK legislator Om Sakthi Sekar has urged the government not to employ school teachers as overseers in the implementation of the central kitchen for the noon meal scheme.Participating in the discussion on demands for grants on Tuesday, he said the teachers had been posted at the central kitchen to “taste the salt” in various items prepared for the school children despite there being a heavy shortage in their numbers. He added that only people with hotel management qualifications should be appointed for such jobs.Asking the government to restrict the setting up of petty shops near schools, the AIADMK member claimed that even  ganja was sold through these “bunks”. He also demanded the the removal of liquor shops from the vicinity of schools.Referring to the inadequate transport facilities, he said more PRTC services should be operated to remote areas, where the private operators were not willing to travel. He urged the government to give back the `3000 collected for the minibus permits.Sekar also wanted the government to issue new taxi permits, which had been stopped some time ago.
