PUDUCHERRY: The Puducherry station of the All India Radio (AIR), on Thursday, commissioned a new 10 KV FM transmitter installed at a cost of Rs 2.25 crore. With this, the existing FM Rainbow service (102.8 MHz) has been upgraded, while the 3 KW transmitter has been dismantled. The transmitter will not only provide superior quality of broadcasts, but will also help the FM channel expand its reach, according to press release from AIR. The state-of-the art equipment will ensure that FM programmes broadcast by AIR Puducherry reach people on a radius of about 80 kms covering Puducherry besides Cuddalore, Villupuram and Tiruvannamalai districts in neighbouring Tamil Nadu. As a public service broadcaster, AIR will continue to contribute to the nation-building process and socio-economic and cultural development of the nation, the release added.The transmitter was inauguarated by Assistant Director Engineering S Ellagovan and Head of Programmes P Sivaprakasm at the newly- constructed annexe building at Indira Nagar, Gorimedu.
