Seven airports in Uttar Pradesh, the home state of Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh, will be developed by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) under an agreement it signed with the state government on Monday.
As part of the government's intent to provide air connectivity to regional or remote centres, the AAI would develop airports at Meerut, Moradabad, Faizabad and new civil enclaves in the IAF airports at Agra, Allahabad, Bareilly and Kanpur, under a Memorandum of Understanding between AAI and the UP government.
The Uttar Pradesh government has already handed over the airports at Meerut, Moradabad and Faizabad to the AAI.
The state has also agreed to provide land and other logistical support for establishing the new enclaves at the military airports in Agra, Allahabad, Bareilly and Kanpur.
An official spokesperson said the move was part of the government's plans to develop airports in Tier-II and Tier-III cities, including the airports belonging to state governments. The MoU was signed in the presence of the Minister on Monday, he said.
