ALAPPUZHA: The incessant downpour has made life miserable in the district, especially in Kuttanad, Cherthala and Ambalappuzha. Thousands of houses in Cherthala and Kuttanad have been flooded.As many as 380 people have been shifted to two relief camps opened by the district administration in Cherthala. The district has registered a loss of around Rs 3.2 lakh. Normal life came to a standstill in Kuttanad, Cherthala and Ambalappuzha. The heavy rain has made the life in the town miserable. Many roads have been flooded and vehicular traffic has been affected. Fish farmers suffered huge loss owing to the breaching of outer bunds and flood. According to the district administration officials, till 6 pm on Wednesday, 66 houses were partially damaged in the district. As many as 37 houses in Cherthala and 22 houses in Ambalappuzha taluk were damaged. Five houses were damaged in Kuttanad taluk. Hundreds of trees were uprooted. Power supply was disrupted in the district following the snapping of transmission lines at several points.Many electric posts also got uprooted. Vehicular traffic was hit with trees uprooted in the wind blocking many rural roads. Power supply to the some parts of the district was restored.The KSEB officials visited the affected areas on Monday. The district also witnessed huge loss of agricultural crops like tapioca, banana and peas.
