KOCHI: A born fighter, Anwar Sadath never hesitates to jump into an agitation if he thinks it is for a social cause. Sadath, who represents the Aluva constituency, has been championing social causes from his school days. And he had undergone imprisonment for leading political agitations. At least 14 political cases are pending against him in different courts across the state. The agitations and the subsequent arrests have helped him win the Assembly election. The selection of the spirited youngster as a candidate in the Assembly election had raised several eyebrows as many veterans and top leaders had an eye on the seat. Rahul Gandhi’s blessings, the support of the Youth Congress and the faith of the voters played a crucial role in his success, recalls Sadath. Anwar, who studied in a private school in Athani, was found restless under the strict management that restricted all kinds of political and social activities on the campus. He joined SNDP High School, Aluva, where his talents began to blossom. He started his political career as a member of the KSU. He became class leader the very next year of his joining the school.Soon he was chosen as the School Leader. He was elected the first and the only Leader of Aluva Education District representing the KSU in the history of the Aluva education district. The teachers, who initially discouraged him from taking part in students’ union activities, later realised his talents and started encouraging him, Anwar recalled."Sincerity, hard work and commitment to society are my mottos," Anwar said. He served the KSU as member of the executive committee of the district and the Youth Congress as the district secretary. He represented Chengamanad panchayat committee. The Congress found him as the best choice to contest in the Nedumbassery division of the district panchayat. He fulfilled the hope of the party by capturing the division with a huge margin. The National Youth Congress leadership, which realised the talent of young Anwar did not think twice to field him as a candidate in the Aluva constituency. He won, surprising his own party leaders. He said that he had once wished to become a politician, a cine artist or a police officer. “I have become a politician at last. In the cine field I have several intimate friends. I was one among the few friends of actor Dileep to witness his sensational but a little controversial marriage with Manju Warrier at the Sree Krishna temple in Aluva. He said that though he had suffered torture from the police while leading agitations, several police officers were his friends now. As an MLA, priority would be given to ensure supply of drinking water, removal of waste and prevention of pollution in his constituency. After jumping into busy public life, he gets very little time to spend with his family consisting of wife Sabeena and daughters Simi Fathima,7, and Safa Fathima,2. The hartal on Monday was a blessing in disguise for his family. Anwar could give lessons in cycling to his daughter Simi. The kids were so happy to sit with their father for some time though his mobile phone disturbed them every now and then.People used to throng his house in Parambayam from early morning to get their grievances redressed. He patiently listens to them and sorts out their problems without delay.
