KOCHI: The Ernakulam North police have arrested Johnson alias Mariyarbhootham Johnson, who is accused of involvement in many theft cases. Johnson (43) of Kulachal, Kanyakumari, has a number of cases registered against him in Ernakulam North police station. He was earlier arrested by the North police in connection with around 18 theft cases and was imprisoned for 3.5 years. He finished his term in jail and was released only three months back.According to the police, Johnson is the prime accused in a major theft case that happened in the city last November. The accused had allegedly broke open the office of Spyro Innovation, a fund management company at Shenoy cross road near Kaloor-Kathrikadavu and stole two laptops, two netbooks, three mobile phones and two Sony cybershot cameras after which he escaped on a bike parked in the office premises. Later, he left for Tamil Nadu by train. He is accused of many similar theft cases. According to the police, Johnson came to Kochi at a young age and was engaged in rag picking. He was first arrested by the police in 2008.Johnson was arrested following the instructions of City Police Commissioner M R Ajith Kumar and Deputy Commissioner Gopalakrishna Pillai. He was arrested by a team led by Assistant Commissioner Sunil Jacob and Circle Inspector B Rajan. Others in the team are North police sub-inspector S Vijayasanker, senior civil police officers Jacob, Jacob Mani, Salim, Xavier, Jageesh, civil police officers Dileep, Biji, Gireesh and Arun.
