The pre-wedding celebrations of Anant Ambani, the youngest son of Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani and his wife Nita Ambani, and Radhika Merchant, daughter of industrialist Viren Merchant and his wife Shaila Merchant, concluded in Gujarat’s Jamnagar after three electrifying days on Sunday. The young couple will tie the knot later this year.
The festivities saw the entire Ambani family — Mukesh Ambani and Nita Ambani, Anant’s siblings Reliance Jio Infocomm chairman Akash Ambani with his wife Shloka Mehta and kids Veda and Prithvi, and Isha Ambani, who heads Reliance Retail, with her husband Anand Piramal and her kids, Aadiya Shakti and Krishna – in attendance.
Themed nights
All three nights of celebrations were themed. Day 1 was called An Evening in Everland, with the dress code listed as “elegant cocktail”.
Day 2 was A Walk on the Wildside with “jungle fever” the suggested dress code. It was held outdoors in the Ambanis’ animal rescue centre in Jamnagar, and guests were advised to wear comfortable shoes and clothing for this event. Invitees then swapped their safari-themed outfits for more elegant ones for Mela Rouge. The dress code for this was “dazzling desi romance”, suggesting glamorous traditional South Asian attires for all.
The final day saw two events. The first one, Tusker Trails, suggested “casual chic” dressing, as guests were expected to further explore the green ambience of Jamnagar. The final party, Hastakshar, called for an elegant evening with heritage Indianwear.
Massive Bollywood ‘multi-starrer’
Almost all A-listers from the film industry were seen at the event. Amitabh Bachchan and his son Abhishek, Rajinikanth, the four Khans – Shah Rukh, Salman, Aamir, and Saif – as well as Anil Kapoor, Jeetendra, Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn, Rani Mukerji, Shahid Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit, and Sanjay Dutt were in attendance.
Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor, with baby Raha, and Neetu Kapoor; Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone, who recently announced their pregnancy; Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani; Vicky Kaushal and Katrina Kaif; Vidhu Vinod Chopra; Kareena Kapoor Khan, with two kids in tow; Arjun Kapoor; Ram Charan; Riteish and Genelia Deshmukh; and Karishma Kapoor, too, headed to Jamnagar for the gala.
The young brigade, too, wasn’t far behind — Janhvi and Khushi Kapoor, Ananya Panday, Aryan and Suhana Khan, Orry, Sara, and Ibrahim Ali Khan made their presence felt, just like scores of others.
Biz bosses create buzz
Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, who went viral with his interaction with Indian chaiwala; Meta boss Mark Zuckerberg; Anand Mahindra, chairperson of Mahindra and Mahindra; Serum Institute of India’s Adar Poonawalla and his wife Natasha; Adani Group’s Gautam Adani; KP Singh, Chairman of DLF; Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran; and Lakshmi Mittal, Executive Chairman of ArcelorMittal, were among the business bigwigs present.
Politics, cricket, and spiritual connection
Isha Foundation’s Sadhguru; the King of Bhutan, His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck; and former US President Donald Trump’s daughter Ivanka were also among those in attendance.
Celebrities from the world of cricket, too, weren’t far behind. Legends MS Dhoni and Sachin Tendulkar attended the gala, apart from current top players like Rohit Sharma.
Political leaders Smriti Irani, Praful Patel, Eknath Shinde, and Uddhav Thackeray were also present.
Breathtaking performances and endearing family moments
The Ambanis got pop star Rihanna to make her debut in India, with a scintillating performance, after-party moves to ‘Zingaat’ and memorable exchanges with the paparazzi and Indian policewomen. American singer Akon, DJ Chetas, Arijit Singh, Shreya Ghoshal and Mohit Chauhan, too, made an entry on Day 3. Apart from a drone show, American magician and illusionist David Blaine kept the audience enthralled.
The Ambanis gave heartwarming speeches, taking pride in Indian culture and capturing the essence of Indian families. Their dance performances, such as Nita and Isha Ambani’s ‘Ghar more pardesiya’, Nita and Mukesh Ambani’s ‘Pyaar hua ikrar hua’, Radhika and Anant Ambani’s ‘Aaj tere mere pyaar ke charche’, Shloka Mehta’s ‘Khandala’ dance with Aamir Khan, and Akash and Shloka’s ‘Kesariya’ with Alia-Ranbir got the loudest cheers.
The three Khans dancing to Naatu Naatu with Ram Charan joining them, Akshay Kumar’s high-octane act, Diljit Dosanjh’s energetic performance and exchange in Gujarati with Nita Ambani and Ranveer-Deepika’s Gallan Goodiyan and dandiya remained among the highlights.
