Another arrest in 7/11 blasts case
Asif Khan Bashir Khan has been arrested from Belgaum in connection with the 7/11 serial blasts case in Mumbai.

Mumbai: In a prize catch, Maharashtra's Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) today arrested Asif Khan Bashir Khan alias Junaid who is suspected to have planted a bomb in one of the suburban trains on July 11, from Belgaum in neighbouring Karnataka.

He was booked under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) and brought to Mumbai for production in a special court here tomorrow, a top ATS official said.

Junaid was allegedly one of the key persons in the entire conspiracy and the police had been looking out for him ever since his involvement came to light last month, the official said.

With his arrest, the number of suspects held in connection with the blasts has gone up to 16. Junaid, suspected to be an activist of banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), is believed to have planted one of the seven bombs, ATS sources said.

Junaid hails from Jalgaon in North Maharashtra and is also an accused in a case registered in a court there against Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) activists for subversive acts. While other accused have been convicted in the LeT case, Junaid is shown as absconding, sources said.
